Dj Marcio is a true friend of mine, and a real good brother.
And he's also one of the most gifted italian deejays.
Or possibly the most. I'm not talking about weird techniques or impossible scratches
(he's able to do that as well, though...).
I'm talking about the gift to speak to the people with his hands and his records.
I'm talking about GUSTO and LOVE. Marcio has both.
I met him through Lugi, almost thirteen years ago. He reps Popilia, Cosenza.
He was a skinny boy in deep love with music. All kind of, but mainly funk.
The very first time I heard his skills was live on a beach during a party, around '96.
He flew over the 1200's with a special grace, and I'd stay harmless bobbin' my head to it, wonderin' how the hell that little kid was so easy doing blends and remixes live under my nose, without any difficulties. He just killed the jam, while the rest of our crew spent hours freestylin' over the sick instrumentals he was cuttin'.
I just got that vibe, and finally I told him: YOU ARE MARCIO, MAN!
And that was just the first of a long series of wicked jams where I saw Marcio on the wheels of steel. But you know, life ain't easy, anyway, and right now Marcio is on hiatus with his 1200's, don't ask me why. I have him on the phone regularly, and I know he's coming back, someday. He never left, actually. Maybe you won't hear from him tomorrow, but in the depth of his heart, as well as in his room, you can bet Marcio still rocks some crazy stuff.
Here you can find the first volume (of three, I guess) Marcio recorded live with Mbatò: gritty mixes and live blends, no layers, 4 turntables and one mic, 2 deejays from down unda, and none can say sh*t to this. God bless you guys.
Also, the b-side offers the original Mbatò version of "Keepitsimple",
from my man Marco Lombardo.
Check it out party people, all hands is in the air.
